Classic Irises and the Men and Women Who Created Them
by Clarence Mahan
$30.00 (US shipping included; see below)
The book no iris lover should be without!
Clarence Mahan tells the story of the men and women who transformed relatively unimpressive iris species into the plants with flowers of diverse forms and colors so beloved by today’s gardeners. This book, the first ever written on the history of garden irises, represents years of research in French, British and American primary and secondary sources. Each chapter features a milestone historic iris and the story of its creation, with biographical information on the breeder. Many beautiful and original pictures of irises are included along with pictures of some of those whose stories are told.
In October, 2020 HIPS was able to purchase the last remaining copies of this important book from the publisher. There are no plans to bring it back into print. This beautiful 400-page hardcover is available in a limited quantity.
