From Robert Wayman’s Irises catalog for 1932: “This variety introduced a new and distinctive and very attractive color in the iris family, with standards of bright coppery-red and falls of dark crimson-brown. There are very few irises that attract as much attention in my gardens as this one and it is wanted by everyone who sees it in bloom. It is a flower for the front of the border.”

From Cooley’s Gardens catalog for 1932: “A small flower of distinct red or crimson brown coloring. Makes a wonderful mass, and increases rapidly.”
