From Cooley’s Gardens catalog for 1944: “A decided contrast in variegatas-standards deep, rich chrome, almost gold; falls black maroon with slight reticulation of yellow at the haft. Good sized blooms on three foot stems. Introduced by Carl Salbach.”
From Lyon’s Irisland catalog for 1949: “A most striking variegata with standards of deep rich chrome and black-maroon falls. Tall. Mid-season.”
Note: Distinctive wire rim of deep maroon around the standards, with same brushed onto the style crests as well.
