From Riverdale Iris Gardens catalog for 1970: “Here is an attractive garden flower which also carries a tremendous breeding potential, with the dominant amoena pattern from Iris melita. [sic] Very large standards of white tinted violet and a violet midrib. The smaller falls are deep purple and slightly recurved, suggesting aril form. Vigorous plants, with narrow, recurved leaves. We don’t know anything else that resembles it.”

(Rhages X I. mellita).

Note: I. mellita is no longer considered a separate species. It is now referred to as Mellita, a form of I. suaveolens.
