From Oakhurst Gardens catalog for 1939: “Large stately flowers of tan brown overlaid with gold, with a delicate penciling of iridescent blue along the midrib of the standards. The color is in a class by itself. 40 in.”

From Robert Wayman’s catalog for 1940: “An improvement on Jean Cayeux, with larger flowers, identical in color, excepting that there is a slight penciling of electric blue at the tip of the beard and the color of the entire flower is slightly deeper. A tan-brown effect of perfect form and in my opinion the best of this color.”
