From Cooley’s Gardens catalog for 1937: “When we tell you that Mr. Lapham obtained this new iris from King Tut crossed with Ethel Peckham you will be interested … and when you learn that this cross produced a number of fine seedlings, and that this particular one is not only outstanding but declared by Mr. Lapham to be the finest thing he has ever turned out, you will want to own it! A very deep fiery chestnut red; red in certain lights, brown in others, with a vivid beard. Large, rounded in shape, well branched. *Will be featured in color in our 1938 catalog.”
(King Tut X Ethel Peckham).
Note: *Cooley’s Gardens 1938 catalog notes that weather conditions prevented them from obtaining a color plate for this variety, and after 1940 they no longer listed it.
