From National Iris Gardens catalog for 1948: “This glowing garnet-red self with its golden beard and excellent branching habits, is a favorite of the master hybridizer, H. Sass.”
From Cooley’s Gardens catalog for 1949: “A very deep rose-mahogany, if you can imagine such a color. Called by some judges rose-red, but it is nearer garnet, with a deep rose and brown area about the center. It has no haft markings, making it one of the richest and handsomest of all dark Iris. Large, with very broad falls, and it blooms quite late.”
From sdlgs from King Tut, HM 1940, AM 1943.
