TB 32″ M B7D
Synonym: ‘Mrs. J.L. Gibson’
From Robert Wayman’s catalog for 1939: “Awarded a Silver medal by the Iris Society of England where it originated. It is a brilliant blue bi-color with standards of soft blue and velvety falls of rich pansy-violet, bordered the color of the standards. The flowers are of fine form and exceptional substance and produced in great quantities, creating a gorgeous garden picture.”
(Dominion X Souv. de Mme Gaudicheau), British Dykes Medal 1948.
Musing: Was the naming of this iris part of a courtship? Registered from Oakfield Gardens, Sussex, England in 1928 by the firm Lowe & Gibson, we in the USA soon christened it ‘Mrs. J.L. Gibson’ after J.L and Maisie were married. In its 20th year, it was awarded the Dykes Medal by the RHS.
Happy Anniversary!!
