A.J. Bliss, 1920/21: “Enormous flowers. Standards light mauve stained bronze at base. Falls rich velvety raisin purple. Strong grower with stout branching spikes and free flowering. 3’6″. Very fine form and extra substance. Arching circular standards nearly 3″ broad, light lavender violet-mauve stained light bronze at base. Hanging falls smooth and flat, very rich velvety purple with close reticulations of brown-purple. Tall branching spikes free flowering 3’4″. ”

From Treholme Gardens catalog for 1928: “S. arched, pale bluish-mauve; shaded light bronze at base; F. flaring, long, purple, edged blue-violet, reticulated brown at base; yellow beard. Vigorous and free flowering with stout branched stems. The enormous flowers are of the finest form, great substance, lasting long in flower, with a rare velvety finish. One of the very best blue toned bicolors and a flower of great beauty.”

From RHS Wisley Trials, 1929: “Vigorous and of rapid increase, with erect glaucous green foliage 26″ high. Flowering stems 32″, erect, branched above and below middle of stem, somewhat zigzag, 8 -10 flowered. Flowers large, close, well proportioned, inclined to be floppy. Standards domed 2 ¾” x 2 ½”, lavender violet, bronzy at base, margins waved. Falls straight hanging 2 x 2 ¾” rich velvety purplish violet with distinct brown veins on haft. Style branches creamy white, midribs lavender. Crests lavender violet. Beard white tipped pale orange. Flowering for 3 weeks from 29th May 1929. ”

From Quality Gardens catalog for 1930: “(Bliss 1924) M, 42″ V.F. One of the best Dominion seedlings. The enormous flowers are of the finest form. Great substance and lasting quality. The circular arching standards are nearly 3 inches broad, light lavender to mauve, stained light bronze at the base. The falls are straight hanging smooth and flat, 2½ inches broad, a very rich, velvety raisin purple in color. The plant is an exceedingly good grower, with stout branching spikes. Very free flowering. We strongly recommend this to all of our customers.”
