From Biltmore Nursery catalog for 1912: “This has standards of a rich, fine blue and falls of intense, velvety dark purple. The foliage is particularly good. Othello is one of the largest of the Neglecta sorts, reaching a height of 30 inches or more.”
From Cornell Extension Bulletin 112: “Color effect an intense purple self. S. a more purple spectrum violet. F. velvety fluorite purple, veined reddish brown on lavender haft. Beard fine, dense, projecting, orange colored.
The plant is of moderate growth and has lax slender foliage and an intermediate height. Its freedom of bloom and attractive and rich coloring are points in favor of its use in mass planting. Rating between 60 and 70.”
