From Tell’s Iris Gardens catalog for 1951: “Clear, smooth blue highly praised from every quarter. Beautiful form, finish, and superb substance. Top blood for blues.”

From Schreiner’s Iris Lover’s catalog for 1955: “Visitors to the American Iris Society Convention in Boston in 1953 were impressed most favorably by the many fine blues and whites at Mr. Buttrick’s garden. Seafarer represents one of the finest of his blues. A sturdy, smooth, very free flowering blue of great clarity of color. Rich, near mid-blue and bluer than most in this tonal register. An illustration of the clump in the originator’s garden is shown on page 5.”

From Cooley’s Gardens catalog for 1956: “The name suggests the clear blue waters of the sea and it is most appropriate. A true deep blue self, free from the veining so prevalent in many blue Iris. Standards are domed and the falls flare out handsomely. 36 inches tall.”
