From its Introduction in Schreiner’s Iris Lover’s catalog for 1965: “From Brass Accents x Beechleaf comes this appealing patterned blend. The name suggestion came from the golden-brown cast of California soil with the blue waterfall pouring forth in the area where the famous gold discovery was made. These new blends have more richness of color and opulence of form than those of past years. Sutter’s Falls is a very intriguing iris that will be a favorite with fanciers. It is one of the largest flowers we grow in the blend class. Two flowers on well branched stems give the effect of a stem with three or four open.”
