From the Stevens Bros. catalog for 1952-53: “Glowing and alive with colour, like some of the rich crimsons in the priceless paintings of the old masters. Winston Churchill is a masterpiece of colour and texture. The standards of an effulgent, copper-lit red, enliven the dark pure red, velvet falls. This lovely iris has created considerable enthusiasm in America, being of a rich tone of red, and very distinct.”
From Lloyd Austin’s Rainbow Offerings 1954 “An impressive new red produced in New Zealand from that great favorite Inspiration. Glowing and alive with color like some of the rich crimsons in the priceless paintings of the old masters. It is a masterpiece of color and texture. Standards light red distinguished by a fine greenish yellow line along the midrib. Falls dark velvety crimson, heavily endowed with individuality and originality. Plentiful pollen.”
